Architecture of Taiwan

I first stepped off the plane at Taoyuan International right before Christmas, awaiting my partner's arrival from LAX. Once you're in Taipei, it becomes clear that you have entered another world, and so much is quite different from where you’re from. And yet, there’s something familiar and nostalgic about the place that I just can’t put my finger on…like somewhere from my past that I recognize…

One thing you must do in Taipei is to ring in the New Year near Taipei 101. On the way back from a rooftop bar, we found an underground gathering of Taiwanese youth, drunk and singing along to Mandopop hits. This was when I felt the energy of Taiwanese culture: constantly evolving with nostalgia for the past and an endless optimism against all the odds.

There is something magical about this island and it’s people.
